Posted by Lauren Kendall on September 3, 2019
BOSTON, Mass., September 6, 2019 – The Bowdoin Group, an executive search firm based in the Greater Boston Area, is pleased to support and participate in this year’s Boston FinTech Week, produced by FinTech Sandbox. The week, filled with events across the insurance and InsurTech, payments and lending, capital markets, and banking and wealth management segments of the intersection of financial services and technology sectors.

We are thrilled to announce that our own Jim Urquhart, Managing Director, FinTech, will be leading and speaking in two separate sessions during Boston FinTech Week 2019. Please find these sessions below:

“The Future of InsurTech: Innovations in the Insurance Landscape” on Tuesday, September 10th at 1:30pm, hosted by The Bowdoin Group

The investment in the InsurTech space has grown significantly: InsurTech startups and “scale-ups” garnered over $3B in investments in 2018, double the investment in 2017 and is roughly 40% of total funding in the last 5 years, according to market data. With this insurgence of capital, these organizations are commanding change and disrupting the insurance industry that is dominated by the incumbents. To continue this growth trajectory, InsurTech companies must be creative to find the right strategies, talent, and funding to help realize their visions. In this session, you will have the chance to connect and network with fellow leaders and innovators before and after our panel discussion, moderated by Jim Urquhart, Managing Director, FinTech at The Bowdoin Group, and learn from a panel of industry experts and investors what you must consider in scaling your InsurTech business.

  • Jonathon Jay Grayson, Co-Founder & CEO at Surround Insurance
  • Jason Griswold, Founder & COO at REIN
  • Dushyant (D) Shahrawat, CFA, Director, Strategic Insights & Advisory at Rosenblatt Securities
  • Snejina Zacharia, Founder & CEO at Insurify
  • Jim Urquhart, Managing Director, FinTech at The Bowdoin Group

“Your Swiss Army Knife for Startup Success” on Wednesday, September 11th at 3:00pm, hosted by The Financial Revolutionist

You’re an early- or growth-stage fintech; you don’t have unlimited resources so it’s extremely important to ensure your missteps are no greater than they naturally will be – so how do you get it right the first time? Save time, money, and make decisions quicker by learning from senior leaders with experience working alongside hundreds of companies just like yours. The mindset of a company trying to scale needs to extend to people and organizations outside the core business. Entrepreneurs should build a network of partners, such as service providers, channel partners, investment bankers, suppliers and customers (who may, for example, be willing to help with market information). Many of these engagements could take the form of formal alliances between the entrepreneurial firms and established companies. This is a rare opportunity to get advice regarding raising capital, sales, talent, marketing, financials, M&A – all crucial components to building a successful company.

Panelists will include:

  • Michael Maxworthy, Partner, M&A Holdings LLC at Marlin & Associates
  • Grace Keith Rodriguez, President of Caliber Corporate Advisers
  • Jeff Hendren, former COO of Quovo
  • Jim Urquhart, Managing Director, FinTech at The Bowdoin Group
  • Harvey Hudes, CEO of The Financial Revolutionist (moderator)
